Castle Village Network

Rules for using the Castle Village Network

The following are explicitly forbidden:

Doing anything illegal or anything that adversely affects the legal interests of Castle Village Owners Corporation ("Castle Village"), Public Access Networks Corporation ("Panix"), or the use and enjoyment of the network by other users.
Unauthorized tampering with any network, computer or other network device, or network cabling (outside of a residents own apartment), unauthorized intrusion into any part of Castle Village's or Panix's systems, or using any Castle Village or Panix machine, file, or access privileges to intrude without authorization into any other system ("Cracking").
Circumventing security or other measures so you have access to services you haven't paid for (theft of services), whether within the Castle Village network, Panix's network, or elsewhere on the Internet.
Sending unsolicited mass mailings or unsolicited mail subscriptions with a "negative option" for continuation. The negative option is one where you invite people who do not wish to receive further mailings to reply to you, or to unsubscribe themselves. ("Spamming")
Use of peer-to-peer file sharing or any other technologies for the purpose of stealing music, software, or other Intellectual Property.

Use of bandwidth is not explicitly restricted, but your bandwidth allocation may be limited to a fair share when in contention with other Castle Village users.

Users are responsible for maintaining the security of their computers, and for cooperating in isolating and disinfecting compromised machines that might be used to distribute spam or malware. Panix *will* disconnect from the network any computer or network known by Panix to be compromised, if it is not promptly sanitized.

Panix may take any action it deems necessary to protect the network and Castle Village, up to and including total shutdown of service to an apartment on a temporary or permanent basis.

These terms are subject to change at any time, in order to allow us to fulfill our legal obligations and/or our contractual obligations to Castle Village.
