Only one computer or router can be used at a time with the Castle Village network connection. If you mistakenly plug the LAN or "local" side of your router into the network jack, then only one of your computers will be able to get a network connection, or worse yet, none of them will be able to go online.
Please confirm that you have connected the wall jack to the WAN or Internet port on your router. If you are connecting any computers or devices using Ethernet cable, please confirm that they are plugged into one of the numbered LAN or Ethernet ports on your router.
When you switch to the Castle Village network connection from your previous DSL or cable connection, you may find that you are no longer able to send mail. This will happen if the outgoing (SMTP) mailserver you have been using only accepts connections from senders who are directly connected to that server's network.
To get around this, you may configure your email program to use our SMTP server. Use the following settings:
Note that very few mail servers have this problem, so don't make this change unless you need to.
If you need help changing these settings, please call Panix support at (212) 741-4400 x1 or send us e-mail.
Each apartment is assigned one public IP address. Your router or computer should be configured to use the DHCP protocol to auto-detect your IP address. If you don't know how to do that, plug it in anyway and try it—"auto-detect IP address via DHCP" is the default setting on the vast majority of computers and routers.
Once you have connected to the Internet, you can learn what your IP address is by visiting a diagnostic webpage like this one, or by checking the network status display in your router's Web interface.
You are currently browsing using IP address 18.119.172.175.
If you have a router and multiple devices, the router will use your one public IP address, and your devices will all receive "private" IP addresses. This is the default configuration for most routers. You can have as many devices as you want, and the router will convert all their traffic so that the outside world thinks every device on your network has the same IP address as the router. This is known as Network Address Translation, or NAT.
If you need help in determining what your public IP address is, or cannot get connected to the Internet when using the Castle Village Network, please call Panix support at (212) 741-4400 x1 or e-mail us and we will assist you.
Yes. Your IP address by default resolves to res.cv.cust.panix.com. If you would like us to reverse translate your IP address to a different domain, please email or call us (212-741-4400, x1) to request the change.
