Service Outage Resolved
The fiber cut earlier today has been fully repaired as of a bit before 8PM.
During this outage, backup service worked properly, so there was no significant
impact on Castle Village residents.
Service Outage
Due to a fiber cut in midtown (47th St./7th Ave.) the main Castle Village service
is currently down. Backup service is working correctly, so there should be little
to no impact currently. During peak service usage (mid evening) some slowdown
may be noticed, if the outage continues that long. We have not received any
information from the fiber provider about when they expect to have it repaired,
but when we do we will update this notice.
Scheduled Network Maintenance Completed
The previously scheduled network maintenance, during which Internet service
was expected to be down between 1AM and 3AM, has been completed half an
hour early. Total downtime during the window was about 25 minutes.
Outage Resolved
The fiber outage that started a 4:30PM has been resolved.
Service came back up, intermittently, a bit after 6PM, and was completely stabilized when
the fiber was fully repaired by 10:15PM.
Ongoing Outage
The Castle Village Network is currently on a backup connection due to a fiber
failure that occerred at about 4:30.
We do not yet know the cause, or when it will be resolved, but the fiber provider
is currently working on it.
While running on backup service, high-bandwidth activities like streaming video are likely to be severely impaired, or not working at all.
We will update this notice when we have more information.
Update - 6:36PM
This outage is due to a fiber cut affecting multiple customers. We still don't have an ETR.
Outage Resolved
The Castle Village Network is fully operational again. It has been since shortly
after midnight on the 11th, but at that time our fiber provider was still repairing
cable and there was no guarantee they wouldn't bring it back down to complete their
repairs. However, they have now declared the repair complete, so that is no longer
a possibility.
Total outage time was somewhat over two and a half days. Durning that time we
discovered serious problems with the backup service (provided by Verizon),
rendering about half of all internet sites slow or unreachable.
In the middle of the second day, we managed a workaround for this problem, at
which point all internet sites were again working properly (except streaming video,
which is outside the scope of the backup service).
Ongoing Outage
The Castle Village Network is currently on a backup connection due to a fiber failure.
The underlying cause is a manhole fire at 57th St. and 7th Avenue.
We do not yet have an ETR for the main link. We will update this notice when we have more
information. Due to the severity of the incident (multiple vendors and hundreds or
thousands of customers affected) repairs will likely take until at least Monday morning,
and could stretch to several days.
Update - 5:34PM
Work crews are standing by, but aren't able to get into the manhole yet. Con Ed
(owner of the manhole) hasn't yet declared it safe to work in.
Update - 2:10AM 12/9/19
As the manhole is still not accessible, a backup plan in being executed. The latest word
form the fiber provider is:
Field crews have been cleared to enter 1 of the manholes required to work on routing around the impacted manhole system. We have multiple field teams in multiple areas working on establishing continuity routing around damage. Splicers will be standing by so once we have a new route established, they can begin splicing to complete the re-route.At this rate, we expect the outage will last until at least Monday evening, and possibly into Tuesday.
Internet in part or all of building 140 may be down for part of
Thursday August 31 for an emergency switch replacement.
This will occur mid/late afternoon. We expect it will take under
an hour.
Extended Maintenance - Service Outage Scheduled
This coming Saturday, November 5th, starting some time after 6PM, the primary internet link for Castle Village will be down for maintenance and repairs. This downtime will last at least six hours, and may last until 9 AM the following morning (Sunday November 6).
The extended duration of this mainenance is due to the need to splice an entire 432-fiber trunk, as well as a number of feeders.
During this outage, sevice should continue to function over the backup link. However, performance may be poor, especially during peak hours (7:30PM-11:30PM).
Service restored
Service over our main fiber link was restored at 2:25 AM.
Fiber down, using backup link
Since about 7:50PM Thursday night, the main fiber link to Castle Village has been down, and
service is running over the slower backup link. Our fiber carrier has started repairs.
Service restored
Service over our main fiber link was restored at 1:18AM. Just as it was in May, the cause
of this outage was Verizon damaging our fiber while doing work on their own facilities.
Fiber down, using backup link
Since about 11:45PM Sunday night, the main fiber link to Castle Village has been down, and
service is running over the slower backup link. As soon as the management office opens,
our fiber carrier will begin repairs.
Repairs underway, ETR 2AM
It turns out that this failure is a near repeat of last month's, with Verizon doing
major work at the 181st Street manhole, and damaging our fiber in the process. Repairs
are underway; we anticipate work being complete around 2AM or a little later.
Network Maintenance
On June 6th, between 9AM and 3PM, there may be several
3-5 minute outages while we perform network maintenance. We apologize
for any inconvenience.
Network Maintenance
On May 14th, between 11AM and 3PM, there will be a small handful of
3-5 minute outages while we perform network maintenance. We apologize
for any inconvenience.
Repairs completed, all services restored
As of 12:26PM, normal service has been restored. We also have backup service in
place, so that in the event of a future fiber failure, performance will of
course suffer, but the Internet will remain available.
The cause of this failure was damage to our fiber, caused by Verizon while they
were working on their own cables.
Ongoing Outage (partially restored)
The Castle Village Network is currently on a backup connection due to a fiber failure.
We do not yet have an ETR for the main link. We will update this notice when we have more
information.
Update - 1:42PM The failure location has been identified and a
work crew has been dispatched. They should be onsite by about 2:15. We
still have no ETR.
Update - 4:24PM The faulty fiber is in a manhole where another
utility company is currently working, so it's a good bet that they
damaged the fiber while doing their work. Once they're out of the
manhole, our fiber company can get in there to start repairs.
Update - 5:34PM We still have no ETR, but we have found our that
the vendor that broke our fiber is... Verizon!
Update - 9:00PM We have restored connectivity over a backup link.
This link does not have as much bandwidth as the main link, so Internet
access may be slow, especially this evening.
Update - 3:30AM Our primary link is still down. There is a crew working
on repairing the fiber right now, so we hope that this will be complete in a
few more hours, but we still have no hard ETR. Service remains available over
the backup link.
Resolved - Brief Outage
The Castle Village network lost internet connectivity for 43 minutes
today, from 4:03 PM to 4:46 PM. This was due to a power failure
in the Castle Village Management Office (the 110 building). Power has
been restored and all services should be operating normally again.
Resolved - Brief Outage
The Castle Village network lost internet connectivity briefly tonight,
from about 7:45 PM to about 8:07 PM. The fault was within our fiber
carrier's network, but they have not yet provided a specific RFO. We
expect that this is likely a delayed fault due to Hurricane Sandy.
Service Outage
The fiber outage which took down all Castle Village internet service, starting
at 12:17 AM on Wed Jan 11, 2012, was fixed as of 3:47AM, for a total duration
of 3.5 hours. All service should be restored as of that time.
If you have any problems with your service after 3:47AM, please contact us
for help. We apologize for any inconvenience this outage may have caused.
Service Outage
A major outage in our fiber carrier's network began at 12:17 AM on
Wed Jan 11, 2012. As a result of this outage, there is no Internet
service.
The carrier is working on the problem as it affects many other circuits in addition to Castle Village's line. They have not yet given us an estimated time of repair. We apologize for the inconvenience, and we will update this notice as soon as more information becomes available.
